L3Harris’ Advanced Degaussing System (ADS) provides controlled current to independent degaussing coils embedded throughout the hull of a ship. The Bipolar Amplifier Units (BPAUs) provide precise current required to create composite magnetic fields that oppose and neutralize the ship’s magnetic signature as it moves across the waters. These fields are formed by the BPAUs controlling the polarity and intensity of current flow through each degaussing coil. The BPAUs monitor their functional status and status of the coils they are driving. A separate ADS Computer processes data received from the ships navigation system for use in computing the control and current commands for each BPAU. The ADS uses a preprogrammed ship control system task, monitors the status of the ship’s ADS, shuts down failed components and compensates for the loss of any BPAU. The BPAUs are monitored and controlled from an HMI screen in the Machinery Control and Monitoring System. The BPAUs can also be individually controlled and calibrated from a separate Calibration Test Computer. Available output power rating for the BPAU power supplies is 10.8 kW.
Advanced Degaussing System
L3Harris is developing a range of solutions based on the latest Cascading H-Bridge and Three-Phase Dual-Active Bridge technology that will provide flexible energy storage and distribution to meet the range of requirements to support the next generation of directed energy weapons and high power sensors. The energy storage will be coupled with advanced power management controls that will deliver seamless power on demand to support any tactical or operational environment.
Automatic Bus Transfer Device
L3Harris’ Static Automatic Bus Transfer (SABT) automatically transfers power to critical loads from a normal power source to an alternate power source in the event of interruption or abnormal conditions. The SABT was developed to protect mission critical power loads on naval ships, submarines, and other defense applications. As such, the SABT is compatible with MIL-ST-1399 and STANAG 1008. Designed using silicon-controlled rectifier (SCR) power-switching elements, the SABT transfers the critical load between power sources in less than ¼ cycle upon loss of source – more than 10 times faster than traditional electromechanical switches – appearing seamless to even the most sophisticated loads. Transfer is programmable from 4 ms to 3.5 seconds. The SABT has precision digital sense and control circuits that do not require any calibration or adjustments.
Point-of-Use Power Conversion
The Power Node Control Center (PNCC) offers groundbreaking technology for electrical power distribution systems by providing the functionality of transfer switches, frequency converters, motor controllers, transformers, circuit breakers, rectifiers and inverters - simultaneously within a single enclosure. The PNCC offers point of use power conditioning and conversion, reducing the distribution infrastructure. Programmable power electronic building blocks enable this technology for mixed application usage. The PNCC provides the highest reliability, survivability, power density and load power quality all with affordability in mind.
Low Voltage Power Distribution
•Switchboards and load centers are designed and manufactured per MIL-SPEC per
MIL-DTL-16036
•450 V low-voltage switchboards
•Retrofit solutions for all type of power generation plants
•Custom engineered to customers’ configuration and full aftermarket spares support
Distributed Power Conversion
The L3Harris Air-Cooled Frequency Converter (ACFC) provides ruggedized power distribution frequency converters which is class standard equipment for DDG-51 Aegis-equipped Destroyers. These robust 135/150 kW units produce precise 400 Hz power that exceed the most stringent system requirements of MIL-STD-1399 for Type III power. Our ACFC guarantees product commonality and supportability, enhanced reliability, and ease of maintenance. They are designed to survive the most adverse shipboard environments, and are fully qualified for shock, vibration, EMI/EMC, and airborne/structure-borne noise limitations. The modular construction design incorporates state-of-the-art IGBT technology and allows two-to-six units to be operated in parallel for redundancy or increased power requirements. The ACFC can sustain overload capability of 125% for 15 minutes, with a transient overload capability of 187% for two seconds.
