Navigation
The L3Harris currently provides the world’s lightest and smallest tactical airborne navigation system for commercial and military use, including unmanned systems. Weighing at 5.2 pounds, the TACAN+ is the only navigation solution available with the capability to track up to four ground stations simultaneously in range and two in bearing and a tracking velocity is up to 1800 knots. Used for both air-to-air and air-to-ground operations, the TACAN+ employs software-controlled antenna switching, dual antennas if needed. Learn More >
We provide ADS-B (terrestrial), ADS-B (space-based), CAS ADS-B Out/In (cockpit), ADS-B Xtend, tactical radar, and we are working to safely integrate unmanned aircraft systems into the NAS.
L3Harris led the creation and deployment of terrestrial ADS-B in the NAS. This capability is revolutionizing air traffic surveillance by providing real-time precision, shared situational awarenes, and advanced applications for pilots and controllers.
L3Harris is also working on concepts that incorporate the future of unmanned operations in support of urban air mobility.
ADS-B Service (Terrestrial)
Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a foundational NextGen technology that transforms aircraft surveillance using satellite-based positioning.
ADS-B enables near instantaneous position update (about one second) as opposed to 5–12 seconds from traditional radar. This allows more precise aircraft positioning, driving improved safety and situational awareness.
Terrestrial ADS-B
Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is a foundational NextGen technology that transforms aircraft surveillance using satellite-based positioning.
ADS-B enables near instantaneous position update (about 1 second) as opposed to 5-12 seconds from traditional radar. This allows more precise aircraft positioning, driving improved safety and situational awareness.
ADS-B enhanced pilot safety through access to Traffic Information Service–Broadcast (TIS-B), which provides altitude, ground track, speed and distance of aircraft flying in radar contact with controllers.
Additionally aircraft are now able to access Flight Information Service–Broadcast (FIS-B), providing weather broadcasts and other advisories directly to the cockpit.
Because ADS-B leverages the Global Positioning System signal, ATC now can
better identify aircraft location which can provide critical insight in search &
rescue scenarios.

Space-based ADS-B complements terrestrial ADS-B for complete area coverage
ADS-B Service (Space-Based)
As the prime contractor for the terrestrial ADS-B program, L3Harris is excited to explore how Aireon’s space-based
ADS-B will give the FAA an opportunity to investigate new ways of delivering safer skies through an integrated space-based and terrestrial system.

ADS-B In/Out (Cockpit)
From the touchscreen Lynx solution to our SafeRoute+ applications, operators see the impact ADS-B brings to aerospace. ADS-B In allows airlines to increase routing, landing and take-off efficiencies, improve block time predictability and increase runway throughput.
ADS-B In/Out (Cockpit)
This ADS-B In retrofit solution increases safety and efficiency during all phases of flight using a suite of ADS-B In applications. It provides the pilots a precise forward field of view of surrounding aircraft up to 100 nautical miles using a Cockpit Display of Traffic Information (CDTI) to create an environment of shared traffic situational awareness between pilots and air traffic controllers.
APPLICATIONS:
> CDTI Assisted Visual Separation (CAVS)
CAVS aids flight crews in managing spacing, especially during the final approach and helps reduce go-arounds, keeping flights running on-time. Watch the Video
> In-Trail Procedures (ITP)
ITP provides the flight crew with a vertical profile view of surrounding traffic over 100NM away, saving fuel and providing efficiency. Watch the Video
> Initial Interval Management (I-IM)
I-IM maintains time-based spacing during instrument meteorological conditions allowing consistent low-aircraft Inter-arrival time which enables better block-time predictability. Watch the Video

With more than 70 years of experience, L3Harris deploys standalone and netcentric tactical air traffic management solutions that contribute to mission success in complex and changing operational environments.
The Precision Approach Radar (PAR)-2020 employs proven active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology to provide precise azimuth and elevation position, enabling pilots to land safely even during inclement weather. It is in use by more than 20 armed services around the world, and the mobile version deploys rapidly in challenging conditions to ensure mission success.
The Ground Controlled Approach (GCA)-2020 radar provides aircraft surveillance and precision landing in a single, compact ATC system. The airport surveillance radar (ASR) and PAR operate simultaneously from a single sensor, providing accurate display of both types of data. Built for mobility, it is rapidly deployable for air traffic services during natural disasters or in areas of conflict.
With thousands of aircraft arriving and departing airports across the globe, more information is being shared between air navigation service providers, airlines and airports. L3Harris is a global leader in managing this information exchange.
L3Harris is the systems integrator for the FAA’s System Wide Information Management (SWIM) system, the aviation data sharing infrastructure that connects internal and external users.
SWIM is the data sharing backbone of the National Airspace System, providing a way to share information such as:
> Flight and traffic flow information
> Weather information
> Airport operational status
> Airspace status and constraints
L3Harris is committed to continually providing the FAA and its partners with advanced solutions as technology and SWIM evolves.
Leveraging benefits from SWIM data
We invite you to join the SWIM Industry-FAA Team (SWIFT) community which is an FAA forum open to the public to engage with industry and learn about SWIM, NAS data and information services. Participants gain knowledge and insight into SWIM that aids with improved system integration, automation and system interoperability.

Our systems also support search-and-rescue operations and automated flight-planning.
Did you know?
> L3Harris has been instrumental in the engineering and integration of aviation weather information to the FAA for over 4 decades
> Provides 24x7 access to real-time graphical and textual aviation weather conditions and forecasts
> Transforming aviation weather information exchange using Open Geospatial Consortium standards with highly advanced filtering methods to process vast amounts of meteorological data
L3Harris is a key contributor to innovations like space-based ADS-B, where we supported Aireon with both the hosted payload platform on the Iridium NEXT satellites as well as engineering for Aireon’s own ground architecture. This partnership brings an opportunity to now to explore space-based ADS-B surveillance information as a supplement to terrestrial ADS-B.
